Parque das Aves, Brazil

We heard that this park is home to many endangered bird species from the Atlantic Rainforest, and we just had to go.

According to the park, the Atlantic rainforest is 91.5% deforested!!

a colorful forest

Before Brazil, I had never seen such colorful birds before! The parrots were definitely the superstars, but my favorite was the cute borrowing owl.

Native to South America, these are tiny owls (about the size of 2 pigeons) that live on the ground!

The butterfly garden was equally beautiful, with the largest butterflies you will ever see. Friendly too, with a couple that perched on my leg or arm several times.
